OUR STORY

Open Book is a proudly independent bookstore nestled amongst a secret garden in Mosman Park, where the art of storytelling and imagination form the foundations of our unique space.

Founded by local bibliophile Jessie Hilton, Open Book was built on the belief that great books have the ability to shape our lives. Amongst the sprawling bookshelves you will find an extensive and carefully curated selection of classics and new releases, from an ever-growing list of genres, to satisfy book lovers of all kinds.

More than just a bookstore, our space is designed to celebrate & support the pursuits of our local creative community. Playing host to a regular stream of events, Open Book welcomes you to experience the works of writers, artists, and creatives - in person and online.

We give voice to the daring, the romantic, the sad, the funny – and all that exists in the space in-between; to satisfy the curiosity of our local community and beyond.

JESSIE HILTON, OPEN BOOK FOUNDER

When I set about building the foundations for what would become Open Book at the beginning of 2021, I did so with the intention of creating something that felt like so much more than just a store.

Stories have always been the backbone of my interior and exterior world. They have given me the means to understand narratives that look wildly different to my own. Introduced me to voices of reason and reckoning, and offered up endless comfort and connection.

Opening a bookstore - a physical space that embodies everything I love about storytelling, is an opportunity to create a new kind of creative community here in Perth. One that believes in the impact and influence that stories can have on us, that celebrates and welcomes difference, and a place where together, we can turn words into worlds.
